My Recent Health Journey

I’ve been in your shoes & unable to get answers. I'm about to share something that only my closest friends, husband & family know that will explain much more about my personal health journey & WHY I do what I do.

About 6 years ago, I was visiting my boyfriend (now husband). He was renting a house at the time with some friends. I walked in that house and within the hour, I felt like I had come down with a severe cold, so I went to Walgreens and got all types of decongestants, nasal sprays, you name it. I stayed in that house all weekend and felt sick the entire time. After the weekend was over, I went back home & immediately got better. Oddly enough, 2 weeks later, I had the most severe neck/back pain I had EVER experienced in my life. I was in grad school & was working part-time; I remember I had to leave work early because I was in SO much pain. Between that time & now, I've been to multiple chiropractors, acupuncturists, sports medicine doctors, physical therapists, neurologists, orthopedists, pain management clinics, gotten x-rays, MRI’s; you name it - I've done it. I was given muscle relaxers and was told that it was "all in my head" & that my muscles were just "tight"..🙃

The pain was so severe throughout grad school that I had trouble sitting during class, sitting to study and sitting to work. I had to quit my part-time job while I was in grad school because I was in so much pain and couldn't sit down long enough to get the job done. I previously loved a good workout like 9-Round, but had to stop because a workout like that only exaggerated the pain in my neck/back that I was experiencing; a workout like that would tighten my muscles so much that I would get severe headaches, numbness and tingling down my arms, & all kinds of other strange symptoms. My whole life quickly starting revolving around managing the pain anyway that I possibly could, taking my time away from things that really mattered like friends, family, relationships, and simply living my life.

After I left my boyfriend's house the weekend that I got sick with severe cold-like symptoms, I knew right away why I had respiratory symptoms - I don't know how, I just knew in my gut. My boyfriend (now husband) decided to get a third-party to come in & test the house that he was renting. Guess what? Mold.

He & his friends that were renting unfortunately had to move out of the house so the house could be remediated.

When my chronic pain showed up 2 weeks later after the exposure to the mold in that house, I didn't link my pain with the mold exposure. I knew about mycotoxins and what they could do, but I didn't honestly think much of it in my scenario because I "didn't think it would happen to me." 🤦🏼‍♀️ It wasn't until years later when I had tried absolutely everything else and couldn't get ANY actual answers that I started believing it could have come from that prior mold exposure. It was mind-boggling to me how a pretty healthy individual was all of a sudden getting such severe chronic pain for no reason, with no answers.

Fast forward to today, I have confirmation of those mycotoxins. I was a health advocate for myself & kept fighting for answers which is why I'm so passionate for everyone else to do the same (even though it took me a while to give in to my thoughts in my own head 🙃). Funny enough, the mycotoxins that I tested positive for are from the two EXACT SAME mold species that came up on the mold-report from husband's old house.

The reason I'm telling you this story is to show you that if you've been told that it's "all in your head" because your lab tests are "normal," KEEP DIGGING. I tell my clients to ALWAYS listen to their intuition and their gut first & foremost. I promise if you keep digging for answers, you'll find them. It took me YEARS, & if I could go back and replay the situation, I wish I would have trusted my instinct sooner instead of suppressing it. Trust me when I say that YOU know your body best, much more so than ANY healthcare practitioner (regardless of who they are).

I will say that from not only my personal experience & my training/education, working with a functional health practitioner can give you the answers that you're looking for.

If you're feeling tired, fatigued, having difficulty concentrating, having symptoms of imbalanced hormones, experiencing sub-fertility, or whatever it may be, you DESERVE answers. You deserve healing and a happy, healthy ending. Your health is HOW you're able to do all that you do on a daily basis. Lastly, I’ll leave you with this 👉🏼 trust your gut, dig deeper & be your own health advocate 💕
